Phonics Demystified Means Everyone Can Help Each Other
Not just for teachers. These Jazzles Lesson Packs are so simple, virtually anyone can use them to inject phonics purpose into play and group activities. You won’t find technical definitions like Diphthongs, Short and Long Vowels, Consonant Digraphs in the Packs.

If you are a teacher, you will recognize these teaching opportunities in the tips, to use as your individual teaching requires. If you are a helper or a parent, you don’t need to know or be frightened by these terms – you will be doing it anyway!

Children Love ‘Playing’ with Variety and Purpose
Children will ‘beg’ you to play one or Jazzles songs a day. They love these songs – from whatever cultural background they come. They love the beat, the different styles of music. They love the humor in the lyrics, they love the actions they can use to dance and dramatize the stories in the songs.

Benefits include children being on task, being focused - better behaved and motivated to learn -- acquiring early reading, writing and spelling skills faster than you can imagine!

Importantly if you are a teacher, you will find it easier to demonstrate to parents how fun and play, achieves early literacy more effectively and with less ‘pain’ than drill and rote!

Effective and Flexible for Diverse Classrooms
Jazzles excels in today's diverse classroom with differentiated learning styles for ESL students. Jazzles songs help relax ESL students, incorporating them into combined NSL and ESL sing-alongs where they can perfect and take risks with pronunciation without embarrassment.

A very simple example is Pop Stars. Have you wondered how they can sing in several languages with almost perfect accents? That is because singing allows you to concentrate very carefully on each subtle sound until you get it right. Jazzles provides the resources and creates the environment research shows is most effective for ESL students. The Story Behind This Letter

"They think I'm a cool, fun teacher...but you laid the ground work..."
Children love the "I'm A Clever Kid": song because it tells while they can't drive a car or climb a cliff, there are lots of things they can do. The song encourages them to learn new things because that is clever. It also tells them to care for others and to cuddle friends if they cry. The moral of the song is contained in this beautiful letter sent me by an ESL student from a mixed 2nd and 3rd grade bilingual class. In fact the whole class loved the songs so much, they each sent a letter. Among all the lovely words, their teacher wrote: "I just wanted you to know you gave our year a significant jump start. Thanks
From a 2nd and 3rd Grade Bilingual Teacher.

Questions and Answers

Q: What is Jazzles?
A: Jazzles is a music-based program, skillfully integrating through heavy use of alliteration, sound/letter learning into recorded songs for every letter of the alphabet – each supported by reproducible/printable resources including the song lyrics and its associated sheets for coloring, collage, reading with ‘cut and paste’ activities.

Q: What age is Jazzles for?
A: Jazzles has songs with a relatively wide age appeal – ranging from 3 to 6 but because it never uses "babyish" words, it is also used for ESL including , for example, adult students at Cologne University.

Across its 26 songs, plus an order of the alphabet song, Jazzles use 368 contemporary and commonly used words with Readability (Gunning-Fog Index) of 4.5 (6-easy 20-hard).

Q: Why does Jazzles music help children with Early Reading?
A: Music kick starts four of our five learning styles – particularly auditory and kinesthetic. IN ADDITION, music and songs help develop concentration, listening and sequencing skills.

Singing allows you to concentrate very carefully on each subtle sound until you get it right. Music and songs tune a child’s ear to pitch to better ‘hear’ the letter and its sound – while the alliteration, the rhyme and the musical hooks and beat aids recall and memory.

There is a Jazzles song for each alphabet letter. All of the lyrics are packed full of alliteration and rhyme to help children easily understand and recall sound-letter relationship, acknowledged as one of the most important steps in reading.

Q: How do Jazzles Plans help children with phonics?
A: There is a Plan for each letter, providing you with over a hundred ideas that use the letter and its sound repeatedly (repetition being an important part of early learning) into playful phonics activities covering all five learning styles and all five senses.

Activities include singing, dance, drama, visual arts and crafts, music, reading, emergent writing, handwriting, communication, and social interaction.

Q: How will my children respond?
A: Everyone has the ability to appreciate and respond to music.

That is why we experience emotions through music and why music works so well for those with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Each year, hundreds of teachers and parents tell us how motivating and engaging children find Jazzles – so much so that both children and teachers really look forward to their daily dose of ‘Jazzles’ and its blend of intellectual skills, physical skills and creative expression.

Jazzles lyrics often have social and emotional themes and topics that interest children, make them laugh, always have meaning and where applicable, help them discuss and deal with the topic in socially acceptable ways.

Q: How Simple?
A: It is important to realize you don’t need to be ‘musical’ to use Jazzles. Behind its image of simplicity in songs and activity sheets, is a truly rich integration of phonics based activities, skills and concepts waiting to be experienced. Let your children enjoy the music and let the Lesson Plans show you how to grow that into self-expression, self-confidence, communication, interaction, and learning.

Q: Why are Jazzles Plans described as Powerful?
A: The Jazzles Plans are called Powerful because they pack a phonics experience into every age appropriate activity and curriculum areas you can think about including:-

I really like them all.

I have one student in particular that can learn things really fast if its set to music. Otherwise, short term memory work is really hard for him. I'm glad you put this program together. I'd like to see more! Thanks.

Q: How Does Jazzles Help Cater for Differing Learning Styles and Senses?
A: Although there are five styles of learning, three predominate: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. While most children have a dominant style, they usually combine this with others but to a lesser degree.

Visual Learning Style (and Sense of Seeing)
For non-readers, visual imagery and audio support(see auditory below) is essential. Jazzles Plans help Visual Learning through:

  • Jazzles printed song lyrics.
  • Letter/words in environment.

Jazzles Plans help Auditory Learning through:

  • Listening to others performing songs/drama/percussion playing.
  • Identifying musical instruments/musical styles.
  • Teacher modeled reading.
  • Peer reading.

Kinesthetic Learning Style (and Sense of Touch)

  • Actions to songs.
  • Drama/Role Play.
  • Movement.
  • Dance.

  • ‘Play’ imaginary instruments (e.g.> strumming a guitar; playing a piano).
  • Play percussion to music and songs.

Oral
Jazzles Plans help Oral Learning through:
